Japanese multinational corporation Sega officially acquires Rovio Entertainment, the developers behind the Angry Birds franchise. In April, Sega shared its plans to purchase Rovio's outstanding shares for a massive cost of $776 million. On August 18, 2023, Sega officially posted on their social media, welcoming Rovio to their family.
The tweet reads a heartwarming welcoming message to Rovio, saying that they are excited to welcome Rovio as a member of the Sega Group and that they are excited for the adventures ahead.

Sega Acquires Rovio Ahead of Q4 of 2023
Sega announced its acquisition offer to Rovio in April and said it would be a friendly takeover. The former also stated that Rovio's board of directors had been pleased by the Tender Offer and supported the decision. Following the announcement, the Japanese Multinational company worked on closing the deal by the end of September 2023. According to Sega's statement during the announcement, the Japanese corporate wanted to acquire Rovio to support their live services in the mobile gaming industry.
Group CEO and Sega Sammy Holdings president Haruki Satomi mentioned the rapidly accelerating mobile gaming market has a high potential for launching content. With Sega, accelerating the said expansion has always been a goal. He later added that the transaction with Rovio, the giant behind the popular Angry Birds franchise, will give home to many skilled employees and support the company in leading the mobile game development in the vast industry.
Lastly, Satomi expressed his feelings by stating that Sega has released countless popular titles, including the Sonic the Hedgehog series, that the community loves. With the completion of the acquisition, he believes that there will be 'significant synergies' created forward. According to Sega, Rovio is focusing on expanding its platform outside the general mobile gaming market. The former is actively there to support this process with its capabilities. With the acquisition just taking place, there has yet to be an official word on any upcoming projects by Sega or Rovio. However, fans can expect newer titles labelled by both corporate giants moving forward.
