PlayStation has officially confirmed that it will not introduce any major existing franchise titles this year before April 2025. This also means no newer entries for major PlayStation games for God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man. This news was broken to the public by Sony president Hiroki Totoki. While Death Stranding 2 had a vague release window of 2025, gamers can now expect the title to launch after April.
Gamers will have to wait for official announcements from Sony for upcoming mainline entries from mega PlayStation franchises. Games like Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Ratchet & Clank will also not see any new entries.
PlayStation Confirms It Won't Introduce Any Major Titles for Mainline PS Games
While the news of not introducing new mainline titles for PlayStation games does not affect the PC ports for existing titles, gamers playing on the Sony console will have to wait for new releases. Sony has confirmed in the past that most PlayStation studios are busy working on fresh projects and IPs. These studios also include the renowned Naughty Dog, where The Last of Us makers have stated that they are working on a new game.
According to PushSquare's report, President Totoki has told the investors that Sony aims to continue focusing on producing high-quality works and developing "live service games." While focusing on live-service games is not most PlayStation studios' forte, it is understandable as titles like Helldivers 2 have had a huge impact on the gaming scene recently.
Totoki has also stated that 'major projects' are currently under development. Although they remain unnamed, Sony has stated that they do not plan to release any new major existing franchise titles in the next fiscal year. These titles also include any content for God of War Ragnarok or Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
Aside from these statements, the same reports also claim that in a presentation given to investors by Sony, the Japanese corporation stated that it is expecting software sales to decline in the coming year as there are no plans to launch titles for major franchises.
This decline will also be followed by a decrease in first-party software profit, and PlayStation 5 console sales are also expected to decline gradually over the next year. That said, gamers are assuming that Sony will still maintain enough profit through their third-party software sales and other subscription packages such as the PlayStation Plus.
