Meta, Facebook’s parent company seems to be testing an AI chatbot, that could carry the moniker Meta AI. The chatbot has already been rolled out for select users in India across its suite of apps, including Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
Instagram users will be able to access Meta AI through a direct messaging (DM) feature where they can tap on the Meta AI icon in the search bar. By doing so, they will be able to directly interact with the chatbot one-on-one.
Similar to other existing AI assistants, such as Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Meta AI also works as a general-purpose assistant, which answers a wide range of queries and provides real-time information.

How Will Meta AI Work On Instagram and WhatsApp
The assistant will come with the ability to generate text and images, which will brief long pieces of text to help users in writing tasks, such as proofreading and editing, translating text between languages, and even creating stories.
With Meta AI, users will also be able to call in the assistant within personal and group chats on the photo-sharing app to ask for advice or suggestions.
Meta is also testing the same AI chatbot on WhatsApp. The news came out when some of the users took to other platforms to share screenshots of the chatbot’s interactions on the platform.

Meta Has Several Gen-AI Experiences In Store
One of the Meta spokespersons has confirmed that several gen-AI experiences are in different phases of development and are already being tested through select users as of now.
Speaking of the Indian market, it is the biggest market for Meta’s suite of apps, including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. These apps have a combined user base of over a billion monthly users.
Meta unveiled Meta AI in September 2023 as part of its big push for gen-AI. The company also plans to integrate these features into its apps which are used by more than 3 billion users each day. The company has also emerged as one of the most prominent players in the AI race alongside other tech players like Microsoft and Google.
Meta AI is powered by a custom-made AI model that allows it to leverage technology from Meta’s open-source large language model (LLM) Llama 2.
Apple also seems to be planning to overhaul its entire lineup of Macs with its upcoming M4 chipsets that will rely on AI heavily. As per a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming Macs will be launched in 2024, with the rest of the lineup set to launch in 2025.
