Tony Todd, who voiced Venom in Insomaniac's Marvel's Spider-Man 2 reportedly claimed that about 90% of the dialogue he recorded for his role did not make it to the game's final cut. The actor made this claim at the recent Fan Expo in San Francisco. Evan Filara, a prominent content creator who also runs a website by the name of Spide Squad, reportedly attended the panel. According to Todd's statement, the cut content also included many scenes, including one where Miles used the Symbiote suit.
Many fans also speculate that the cut content was for a sequel or a possible DLC that may receive a release date soon. However, we are yet to see what Insomniac has in mind.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Voice Actor Tony Todd Revealed that Only 10% of His Recorded Lines Were Used in the Game
With Marvel's Wolverine's announcement in 2021, Insomniac made it clear that they are attempting to expand their Marvel universe, starting with Spider-Man. The recent title also introduced a variety of villains for the web-slingers to face who share a connection with many notable Marvel characters. While Venom is one of them, the anti-hero is often seen as a nemesis to Spider-Man.
Considering his part in the recent game and Tony's statement on his cut lines, many gamers also suspect a spin-off title about Venom. Given how Miles Morales received his title within the universe, Venom being a playable character in his own DLC is quite possible.
Insomniac's senior narrative director Jon Paquette told Insider that fans have always played an important role in helping the studio regarding the path for the series when asked about a potential Venom spin-off. At the time, Paquette also stated that the studio is focused on Spider-Man 2, as they are waiting on the reaction from fans. He closed the statement by saying that the studio would listen to the fans and act accordingly.
Will a Venom Spin-Off Work Within Insomniac's Spider-Man Universe?
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 had a lot of innovation with Peter's Symbiote suit as the mechanic combined a lot of classic movements from both movies and comics. Considering Venom played a significant part in the story, fans may share an interest in the character as the anti-hero has been a famous nemesis to the web-slinger. Insomniac has already implemented a lot of new things to the franchise. With a Venom spin-off, the developers can deliver a refreshing experience to gamers. Fans have also expressed a ton of praise regarding the brief section in which Venom was a playable character. Insomniac could potentially build off of that to deliver a full-blooded DLC featuring the character.
