  • Fans can participate in a fun challenge, where they will get a chance to defeat Haaland’s in-game village.

The creator of Clash of Clans, Supercell, gave all its fans a big surprise by announcing Erling Haaland, a renowned Norwegian forward for Manchester City, as a playable character. The announcement also revealed how Haaland is a long-time Clash of Clans fan, and his love for the game made the ultimate Clash of Clans collaboration possible.

Erling Haaland will be available in the Clash of Clans as a Barbarian King character from 1 May 2024. Erling Haaland Becomes The First Celebrity To Be A Part Of Clash Of Clans As A Playable Character

Supercell’s collaboration with Erling Haaland for Clash of Clans is historic because it is the first time Supercell has added a ‘real person’ in their game. Moreover, the collaboration is also a big moment for Haaland this year. Erling Haaland was on the cover poster of EA Sports FC 24, and now, with his addition to Clash of Clans, he has made himself immortal in another video game. While expressing his excitement over the collaboration, Haaland said:

It’s been tough to keep this one quiet, but I’m excited to finally be able to talk about this epic partnership with Clash of Clans. I’ve been a huge fan of the game for a long time and know everything about it, so to appear as an in-game character is really cool.

Supercell and Erling Haaland revealed the “Haaland for the Win! Clash of Clans x Erling Haaland” trailer across their socials, which left their fans stunted. Stuart McGaw, Clash of Clans General Manager, shared how the team at Supercell worked towards bringing Haaland into the game.

When we heard Erling Haaland was a fan of our game and that he wanted to partner with us, it was really a dream scenario. Our team did everything we could to bring him, one of the world's best athletes, into the world of the game so our players could enjoy a truly special moment.

Erling Haaland will be available in Clash of Clans as a Barbarian King from Wednesday, 1 May 2024, and fans can even participate in a fun challenge, where they will get a chance to defeat Haaland’s in-game village. Interestingly, Haaland has been playing the game for more than ten years.

  • After its decision to end PSVR support Minecraft, developer Mojang has announced it will be following the same route for VR on PC.

  • Users will no longer be able to sport VR googles and stroll through Minecraft set to be removed from both platforms from March next year.

After its decision to end PSVR support Minecraft, developer Mojang has announced it will be following the same route for VR on PC. Users will no longer be able to sport VR googles and stroll through Minecraft set to be removed from both platforms from March next year.

"Our ability to support VR/MR devices has come to an end, and will no longer be supported in updates after March of 2025," Mojang wrote in a notice buried midway through its patch notes for Minecraft's latest Bedrock 1.21.40 update.

After March’s update and the demise of Minecraft’s official VR support, all existing worlds will at least still be available to build using non-VR/MR devices, and all Marketplace purchases will continue to be available as well.

VR Minecraft Players Can Still Enjoy The Game

While the developer is bidding adieu to VR in an official capacity, all is not lost people for users who enjoy Minecraft on VR on PC. As noted by Road to VR, virtual reality support can still be modded into Minecraft’s Java edition using Vivecraft, and there’s also Questcraft for Meta’s Quest headsets.

Speaking of Minecraft's Bedrock 1.21.40 update, there’s the full launch of Mojang’s previously experimental Bundles feature -- which enables players a way to stack different blocks or items together in the same inventory site save space, and a new hardcore mode, all listed out in the company’s latest patch notes.

This comes after Mojang’s recent decision to ditch its traditional single summer Minecraft update in favor of multiple content drops throughout the year.

Team Behind Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown Disbanded

The team responsible for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has been disbanded, as per a report from French media outlet Origami. In a video posted, Origami reports that the team behind The Lost Crown was disbanded despite seemingly positive reports from developers on their experiences working on the game.

Per a tweet by Gauthier Andres: "I've heard and read 'It was the best game production in my entire life' three or four times in a single weekend while getting information on the game's development. One after the other I was told it was seen as a beacon of hope to create a safe space for people that were burnt out by Beyond Good & Evil 2. The team has been disbanded by Ubisoft."

The video also states that the game’s fate was effectively decided just a few weeks after its release. The core game development team reportedly fought to get a sequel or at least more expansion beyond the single “Mask of Darkness” expansion, but Ubisoft allegedly needed more help on other projects that had better sales potential.

Highlights

  • The Day Before developer Fntastic has called it quits on the Kickstarter it hoped would secure funding for Escape Factor.

  • In a post shared on X, the studio said the project had not "generated enough interest" and was "unlikely" to reach the goal initially set out.

  • As such, Fntastic has decided to postpone work on Escape Factory and cancel the Kickstarter.

The Day Before developer Fntastic has called it quits on the Kickstarter it hoped would secure funding for Escape Factor, a physics-based multiplayer co-op escape game. In a post shared on social media platform X, the studio said the project had not "generated enough interest" and was "unlikely" to reach the goal initially set out.

As such, Fntastic has decided to postpone work on Escape Factory and cancel the Kickstarter. No funds have been collected, the company said. But, don’t go thinking the developer is actually going to call it quits. Rather, in announcing the end of one game, it has also announced the start of another one: an "action-horror prop hunt" game called Items.

Fntastic Taking Feedback From The Community

In the same post, Fntastic admitted there simply isn’t enough interest in its Factory game, it said the community had been asking for a prop hunt game so that is what it is going to do now.

The company added the development of Items will "require significant resources", and therefore the team has "decided to release mobile games in parallel to support the process". Fntastic also suggested another Kickstarter could be on the cards in the future, saying it is "important to us that our players get the chance to play and test the game in advance" of a release.

In response to a social media user who scoffed at the company’s ongoing attempt to win back some favor, Fntastic said: "We know our decisions and projects might not be for everyone, but we’re working hard to create a game that our supporters will like and enjoy."

Fntastic Has A Patchy Past of Releasing Games

It is fair to say that Fntastic does not have a good track record when it comes to launching games. It finally launched The Day Before back in December 2023, after a rocky road to release which included delays, the developer being forced to state its game wasn’t a sham, and criticism for its use of unpaid volunteers. The company even got tied up in a bizarre trademark dispute with a calendar app also dubbed The Day Before.

However, in the end, The Day Before didn’t last long. The launch was a mess, and the studio shut down a mere matter of days after the game’s release, with players getting refunds for the product. Fantastic announced its ‘comeback’ last month, with an attempt to refresh itself with a 'Fntastic 2.0' push.

If we look at the upcoming slate of zombie games, arguably the most hotly-anticipated is State of Decay 3. Fans have been patiently waiting for Undead Labs’ ambitious third entry in the series, but as the months pass by, patience is becoming thinner.

Now is the time for Undead to put everything it has behind its next game, but unfortunately, that also marks the end of the line for its beloved State of Decay 2, which today gets its last ever update.

Thankfully, this 38th and final patch will see the State of Decay 2 go out in style. This substantial update essentially sets it up for the future and gets it in the best possible shape with quality-of-life improvements, balancing changes, adjustments to event rewards, and some bug fixes.

What Does Update 38 Bring To The Game

One of the biggest changes in Update 38 is the addition of community inventories. From the community screen, users will now be able to access the stashes of all other survivors in their base. This makes swapping, organizing, and storing gear so much easier.

For people trying their hands at the State of Decay 2, they also need to factor in a new momentum mechanic that will slow their vehicle if they drive through water. While 4x4s will be affected less by the water resistance, it is an added splash of realism that players will need to watch out for.

Apart from the gameplay changes, Undead Labs has not only added some brand-new clothing items but it has also generously unvaulted any past time-gated content. It mostly has seasonal gear for events like Halloween and Christmas. Several weapons and vehicles have also been added to the world spawn pool.

Will the State Of Decay 2 Go Offline?

Update 38 is currently live in the State of Decay 2. Users will be able to check out every single change in the full set of patch notes here. Although this is the last update for the game, Undead Labs has already assured it won’t be taken offline.

While State of Decay 2 is still worth your time, the home stretch of the agonizing wait for the State of Decay 3 release date now starts. For players suffering from State of Decay fatigue, there are several other zombie games to try out for now.

Now Sequel For Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown

The video also states that the game’s fate was effectively decided just a few weeks after its release. The core game development team reportedly fought to get a sequel or at least more expansion beyond the single “Mask of Darkness” expansion, but Ubisoft allegedly needed more help on other projects that had better sales potential.

According to the report, The Lost Crown did not meet the company’s expectations, and executives expressed concerns that a sequel would cannibalize long-term sales of the first game. The game was developed at Ubisoft Montpellier, which employs hundreds of people and was last known to be working on the infinitely-in-limbo Beyond Good and Evil 2.

The Team Has Shifted Focus To Other Games

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Senior Producer Abdelhak Elguess sent the following statement to IGN, "I'm extremely proud of our team's work and passion at Ubisoft Montpellier to create a game that resonated with players and critics alike, and I am confident in its long-term success. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is now at the end of its post-launch roadmap with three free content updates and one DLC that was released in September.”

"We are now focusing on making the game available to more players: it was recently launched on Steam, and will be available on Mac by this winter. Most of the team members who worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown have shifted to other projects that will benefit from their expertise. We know players have a love for this brand and Ubisoft is excited to bring more Prince of Persia experiences in the future."

When Is The Wolf Among Us 2 Coming?

The Wolf Among Us 2, will be set in the world of Bill Willingham’s Fables comics - was originally announced back in 2017, but development was stopped when Telltale Games faced significant lay-off and was shuttered in 2018.

It seemed like the end for the sequel; however, a little less than a year later, it was announced Telltale was being resurrected under new management - a surprise development that would eventually see The Wolf Among Us 2 re-announced, with the project kicking off in pre-production.
