Apple’s iPhones have always been positioned as a closed ecosystem. However, this seems to be changing slowly. Now, Apple has approved a PC emulator dubbed UTM SE for iPhones, which is a testament to the same. The app allows users to run full versions of Windows and Linux directly on iPhones, allowing users to play retro games and apps.
The fact that UTM SE is free to use makes the whole deal even better. The developer offers resources for users to download several computer OS, including Linux, Windows, and even macOS. The PC emulator allows users to create a new virtual machine, and boot into the existing one with an option to download pre-built machines from the UTM gallery.

The PC Emulator Is Available For iPhones And Vision Pro.
Not just the iPhone, the app is also available for iPads and the VIsion Pro spatial computer. This way, users will be able to play their favorite retro DOS and Windows games directly on Apple devices. The emulator is built on top of QEMU, a widely used open-source emulator, and can support terminal mode for text-only OSes. The emulator is also compatible with VGA mode for OS with a user interface.
The UTM SE PC emulator will take up around 1.7GB in size, and depending on the OS that one loads, it will consume additional storage. The app is compatible with iPhones and iPads running on iOS 14 or newer versions, and it supports over 12 different languages.
The UTM SE app is developed by Turing Software LLC, and it enables users to directly boot an OS from the local storage and is capable of emulating OSes developed for platforms like x86, PPC, and RISC-V architectures. The developer is also making it easy for users to run pre-built machines, which users can download from the company’s official website or build their own, as per the requirement.

First PS1 Emulator Finally Makes It To iPhone App Store.
Earlier this year, Apple finally started allowing emulators on its App Store. The Delta app for classic Nintendo consoles sent ripples at the time of launch, but now there’s a PlayStation One (PS1) emulator ready for iPhone users to enjoy.
Dubbed Gamma, it’s a full-blown PS1 emulator on the App Store for the iPhone and iPad, enabling users to enjoy a wide range of games that were first released on Sony’s debut console.
The new emulator comes from an experienced iOS app developer Benjamin Stark. The new app is based on the Delta emulator’s codebase, but Delta developer Riley Testut confirmed that Stark was allowed to use this codebase.
