Assassin's Creed Game Set in Japan, Codename Red Could be Slated for a 2024 Release

Ubisoft revealed the massive Assassin's Creed slate last year which included Assassin's Creed Codename Red, a game set in Feudal Japan. According to new reports that suggest Ubisoft is looking for commercial partners for the "biggest blockbuster" of 2024. 2023 will see the release of several massive Assassin's Creed titles, including Mirage, Codename Jade, and Nexus. This leaves Codename Red as the only candidate for a 2024 release date.

This lines up with a report by Insider Gaming earlier this year that suggested AC Codename Red could be scheduled for 2024. The current report suggests that Ubisoft's Business Development and Brand Partnership teams were looking for sponsorship partners for a massive 2024 title. While this isn't a loud-and-clear confirmation by the publisher, it is a relatively strong sign. Since the appearance of the report, it appears Ubisoft has removed any mention of the 2024 release window.

Assassin's Creed Finally Takes a Leap of Faith with a Feudal Japan Setting

From the moment Assassin's Creed as a franchise gained momentum and acclaim across the industry, the gaming community has been clamouring for the series to take the game to Japan. Over the years, Ubisoft has expressed an interest in the setting but nothing materialized from the publisher until now. Fans are excited to see what the devs have in store and whether the nearly 2-decade long wait will be worth it. 

However, at this point, Ubisoft will be going head-to-head essentially against games like Ghost of Tsushima, which clearly took cues from the Assassin's Creed franchise to craft a fantastic single-player experience set in Japan. Expectations from Ubisoft are at an all-time high following the Ubisoft Showcase earlier last month which detailed a massive road plan for Assassin's Creed, replete with offerings on not just PC and Console, but on Mobile, VR, and even Netflix.
