New Features in WWE 2K24
WWE 2K24 Deluxe Edition and Forty Years of WrestleMania Edition are scheduled for worldwide release on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. The standard version of WWE 2K24 is stated to launch on March 8th, 2024. The game is going to be available on PC, PS5, Xbox X/S as well as the old generation consoles such as PS4 and Xbox One.
The "40 Years of Wrestlemania" mode is what seems to have garnered the most attention and fans cannot wait to see what kind of Showcase mode 2K have on offer. From what fans have pieced together from the trailer, it appears players will be able to replay iconic Wrestlemania matches of the past, including Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker, and Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns.
It has been confirmed that showcase mode will continue with the ‘slingshot effect’. Within this, the gameplay seamlessly transitions to real-life footage from those matches. While fans are divided on this feature, it makes sense for this year’s mode especially as we’ve seen a 30-years of Wrestlemania mode back in 2K14. This approach could provide a new twist on matches that are coming back, offering something different from the old game versions.
Not only is WWE 2K24 relaunching a fan-favourite mode, but it’s also bringing back some iconic match types that have been absent for years. This includes the return of the Special Guest Referee, the Gauntlet match as well as the return of Casket matches. The addition of ambulance matches for the first time in the series is also something fans are looking forward to.
The game is only a month away from release so it is likely that 2K will drop new gameplay trailers in the weeks leading up to release. A new trailer for the game will likely premier alongside the Royal Rumble this Sunday. The WWE 2K franchise has been sort of a mixed-bag over the years, with fans believing that the games have not been as innovative as they once were in the days of Yuke's with the likes of Smackdown vs Raw and SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain. It will be interesting to see if 2K is able to recapture some of the old magic or if it's going to be more of the same.
