Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has officially shared a huge announcement regarding a cut in its workforce. A recent blog post shared by the company shared the 'difficult' company update, stating that it was an extremely hard decision to plan and commence a reduction of overall headcount. The reduction had an impact of globally 8% and about 900 layoffs as subject to local law and consultation processes.

Sony Shares 8% Reduction In the Work Force Due to Local Law

According to the official SIE blog post, the 900 people who were let go of their jobs were incredibly talented workers who were a significant part of the company's long-running success. Sony also shared its gratitude to the workers, stating that they are very grateful for their contribution in the past years.

The post then proceeds to explain the change in the industry by stating that the space has changed immensely, as they need to be ready for the future and set the business up for what 'lies ahead'. The statement does not include the exact plans for the company; however, many assume that Sony is trying to cut costs in all ways possible for the future.

At the moment, Sony is trying to deliver on expectations from developers and gamers so they can continue to improve in the future of technology in gaming. The recent cut-off was a step back, as it aids the company to set up and continue bringing the best gaming experience to its community. President and CEO, Jim Ryan also attached a copy of the email which was sent out to the company last day to offer more context to the decision which was taken regarding the matter. The email talks about the company's discussion on leadership discussions over several months which have led to this change.

Ryan also stated that long-term sustainability is required to deliver promising experiences to fans and community members. Hence, this decision will streamline the goal of harbouring resources and ensure continued success.  The mail claimed that there would be impact on employees across all SIE regions, including the Americas, EMEA, Japan, and APAC. Most importantly, several PlayStation Studios are affected by the change. The news has been hard on most employees. Layoffs across the industry have been harrowing to say the least and it appears that the end isn't in sight just yet.
