Why is Rockstar Games Asking Their Employees to Return To Office in April?

Rockstar Games, which is a division of Take-Two Interactive Software announced that its employees will be returning to the office for five days in a row starting April, according to a report by Bloomberg. According to an email sent to Rockstar employees on Wednesday, which Bloomberg also reviewed, Rockstar’s head of publishing, Jenn Kolbe, wrote that the decision had been made for reasons of productivity and security.

Rockstar has been hit with several security breaches in recent years, including a massive leak of unreleased footage from the upcoming Grand Theft Auto sequel and an unreleased trailer that went public in December. Kolbe added that the company has seen "real advantages" from having employees work in-house.

In a statement, she stated the following:

“Making these changes now puts us in the best position to deliver the next Grand Theft Auto at the level of quality and polish we know it requires, along with a publishing roadmap that matches the scale and ambition of the game,”

Rockstar isn’t the only studio to go back to the drawing board. Last September, Rebekah Valentine, an editor at IGN, reported that Ubisoft employees were angry about what they called “broken promises” in response to the studio’s mandate to return to the office.

The exact release date of GTA VI has yet to be revealed. Rockstar Games said in a trailer at the time that the game will be released in 2025.
