The Indian gaming community witnessed one of the historical moments as India’s top esports players and creators met the Honourable Prime Minister to discuss the Indian gaming industry. The top creators and athletes like Animesh “Thug” Agarwal, Naman “Mortal” Mathur, Payal Dhare and many more talked about their gaming journey. They had an extensive discussion about the growth of the Indian gaming industry.

PM Narendra Modi even asked for suggestions and feedback on how everyone in government and citizens can play their part in the growth of the Indian gaming industry. “Gaming Needs To Stay Free, Then Only It Can Grow”: PM Narendra Modi Over Adding Government Regulations Around Gaming Industry

Mortal and Thug presented the first and foremost question to PM Narendra Modi about the implementation of government regulations in the gaming industry. Responding to the query, PM Modi said that the government would like to understand the industry before taking such actions and also showcased that the government implementation might hinder the growth of the industry.

Another point of discussion was about how the youth should approach the idea of becoming a content creator or an esports athlete. GamerFleet presented his example where he continued gaming as a side hustle while focusing on his studies and regular job first. According to him and other gamers, youngsters shouldn’t leave everything and jump into the industry. Youngsters should continue playing as a passion while continuing their studies or jobs. Once they get a breakthrough in the industry, they can consider switching to gaming as a full-time career.

Gaming is now a mainstream sport and with the government’s support we will be able to take it to the next level.

The development of games in India was another central point discussed during the Game In India session. Gamers pointed out that with the Make In India campaign, several gaming studios have pushed themselves to develop Indian-themed games, including mythology. PM Narendra Modi suggested for the development of games that can raise awareness about environmental and social issues. The Prime Minister also emphasized the promotion of open-source games in India.
