Top 5 Formations to Dominate in EA FC 24

One must note these formations are mainly for online play and not in the competitive circuit. This is so as formations with 4 defenders are only allowed in the professional circuit. Let us now look at the top 5 formations in EA FC 24.

5) 4-3-3 (5)

The 4-3-3 has been one of the most popular formations in the world of football. Since its origin, it has been the go-to formation for many teams. The 5th variant of this formation has a hint of uniqueness in it. Within this, the striker will be playing as a false 9. A false nine is a unique variant of the striker role. The striker can come and play in the midfield as well to help in build-up play.

Usually, when this transition occurs, we can see the wingers get narrow and try to focus on the half-spaces. In this motion, the formation would look more like the diamond 4-1-2-1-2 in this phase of play. Within EA FC this formation is useful as you can use overlapping fullbacks to stretch the field as well as have your midfielders run into half spaces to get a chance on goal. In defense, players can sit in a low block of 4-5-1 to make sure there are no empty spaces in the central space on the pitch.

4) 4-4-1-1

Back in the early 200s, the 442 was one of the most famous formations to use. The issue usually used to be that you could only progress the ball vertically. The classic 4-4-2 is back in the meta in EA FC. Previously it was looked at as one of the easiest formations to play against but now with the new patch, there are some major changes. Firstly having two strikers up top is quite incredible in the current meta. Providing one of them with the false 9 instruction allows another layer for build-up on the attack.

If we take a look at the midfielders on the team, the central midfielders will need to have quite a lot of stamina. Their ideal role will be as a box-to-box midfielder trying to make spaces up top while also being present in defense. The wingers' goal is to either dribble the ball into a position to put the cross in or cut inside and take the shot from outside the box. The only issue with this formation would be that if not balanced well enough, it could result in you conceding on the counterattack.

2) 5-4-1

The second last formation isn't allowed in the professional circuit by very useful in online matches. It is the 5-4-1 with the 3 center backs in this formation. This formation was voted the best formation in FIFA 23 in a poll put out by various YouTubers. This is because players can play quite aggressively and defensively when needed in this formation.

The wing-backs on either side can overlap the wingers and provide another passing opportunity in the attack. On the other side, these wingbacks can also stay in a defensive position and allow the central CB to get the ball into the midfield. The 2 central midfielders here have a similar role to that in the 4-4-2 formation.

Finally, the striker up top can be tall and physical or one who is nimble and pacey. On the counter-attack players can pass a lobbed-through pass over the opponent's defence and try to create an attack from that movement.

1) 4-2-3-1

This formation has been the go-to for most players in EA FC since the start of the game. Back in FIFA 19, this was the most used formation as well and it still holds the crown. This is due to the current meta of the game being the outside-the-box Trivela shot. With the Trivela Playstyle plus being quite overpowered in this game. The 4-2-3-1 consists of 2 CDM players and 3 CAM players. This makes it one of the most narrow formations to use.

Compared to the previous 4 formations, there are no form of wingers or wide midfielders in this formation. As such players will need to learn how to build up in the attack primarily from the centre of the pitch. The striker in this formation can either be a target man or a pace merchant. As a target man, he can head the ball down into the path of the central CAM to initiate the attack. If they are a pace merchant they can make runs in behind the opponent's defensive line to receive a lobbed-through pass from any player in the midfield.
