The Guard Wins VCT 2023 Ascension Americas: Grand Final Recap
The Guard had a dominant run with higher seeding in the playoffs while M80 made their way back through a lower bracket. M80 and The Guard had once fought in the upper semifinals where The Guard won 2-0. The Grand Final was a grudge match where M80 wanted to take their revenge and grab themselves a franchise slot.
The Grand Finals was a best-of-five where the first game was on the map of Ascent. It was a close match where The Guard returned from a 4-8 half to win the map with a 13-11 scoreline. Now thoroughly warmed up and backed by the initial victory, The Guard, continued their dominance on the second map of Haven, winning with a convincing 13-3 scoreline.
On the third map of Bind, M80 decided to make a comeback, taking it to overtime and winning with a 14-12 scoreline. Although unlikely, M80 still had a chance to reverse sweep and win the series. The Fourth matchup was on Pearl where both teams were neck-and-neck at the half at 6-6. The Guard decided not to give M80 any chance of a reverse sweep and went on the win the series 3-1.
