Who is the Hades II Player Character?
The new Hades protagonist for the sequel is Melinoë. Gamers will be introduced to her in Hades II, as the Princess of the Underworld. As for her story, Melinoë seeks to kill Chronos, the youngest Greek Titan and Titan of Time, as he has usurped Hades. In her journey through the Underworld, Melinoë is aided by Olympus while she also shares a unique relationship with Artemis, the Goddess of the Hunt.
While in Greek Mythology one can find many inconsistencies in Melinoë's character, Supergiant Games has settled on making her a goddess who possesses enormous amounts of strength for her kind. She is a force to be reckoned with in the sequel and is the second child of Hades and Persephone. With all the strength from the Underworld in her arsenal, gamers can unleash unexpected dominance on their enemies while exploring various sectors of the map. The developers have promised more story details for Melinoë in the future.
Melinoë's Story Briefly Explained in Hades II
Hades II's story takes place in the underworld right after the first game. In the sequel, Chronos attacked Hades shortly after Melinoë's birth. This information was passed onto the player character by Poseidon. After the attack, Melinoë managed to escape and avoid the Titan.
Melinoë later trains with Hecate for a long time, until she is ready to take on the Underworld on her own and embark on the journey to defeat Chronos. Melinoë, much like her brother Zagreus from the first game, can rely on the Olympians for aid in her journey. As the story of Hades II progresses, gamers will meet various new and returning characters such as Artemis, the Goddess of the Hunt.
Supergiant Games have worked extra hard on fleshing out Melinoë's character in Hades II, as she also referred to "witch", several times in the game. One will be able to tell that all of her powers come from witchcraft, which is widely different from Zagreus in the first game. Melinoë is a much different character than Zagreus and possesses different abilities and relationships with the Underworld residents. This overall delivers a much different experience to gamers who are returning to the land in the shoes of Melinoë.
