TEC Challenger Series 2023 VCT Off-Season: Orangutan vs. Medal Esports Recap
The lower bracket match between Orangutan and Medal Esports was an interesting fixture as Medal had not defeated Orangutan over a year and it was their opportunity to break the curse. However, Orangutan stood strong, coming in with a strong game plan and reading Medal Esports like a book. The veto for the five maps was: Ascent, Haven, Bind, Lotus, and Breeze. Ascent was smooth as butter for Orangutan as they dominated their map pick with a 10-2 first half and a 13-4 final score. Rawfiul carried his team with a whopping ACS of 386 on Sova, securing 26 kills on a mere 8 deaths.
Haven was a rollercoaster map as Medal fought really hard to stay in it, bringing the first half level at 6-6. They then won three rounds in a row to lead 9-6 but couldn't hold on to their advantage. Orangutan went on to streak together five consecutive rounds to lead 11-9. The match went to overtime where Medal managed to win their map pick at 16-14. Azys dropped 39 kills in 30 rounds, despite his team losing the map. On the other side, Blackhawk dropped 35 kills to secure the win for his team.
Bind started with a domination by Orangutan as they led 7-0 and completed the half at 9-3. Medal tried to fight back by winning three rounds in a row in the second half but Orangutan read their plays and finished their map pick with a 13-8 win. Once again, Azys carried his team with a 26-bomb and a huge ACS of 364 on Raze.
Leading 2-1, the fourth map of Lotus was also a quick one for Orangutan. They started with a huge lead of 9-3 in the first half and only dropped one round in the second half to win their opponent's map pick in 13-4 fashion. With this, they won the series with a 3-1 scoreline, moving to the finals where they will face True Rippers in a best-of-five. Medal Esports finished third in the tournament, a commendable podium finish after a lengthy dip in form.
The last match of the tournament will take place on 12 October 2023 at 4 PM with Orangutan and True Rippers back at it to determine which team will become the champion. All Valorant matches will be streamed live on the official YouTube channel of The Esports Club.
